Traditional meat inspection and veterinary verification delivery methods have undergone a process of modernisation with a view to improving efficacy and cost-effectiveness. EU legislation has been developed and drafted to respond to the challenges presented. Through the application of Article 5 of EC Regulation 882/2004 the European regulatory governing community has created alternative delivery mechanisms. It is recognised that through the delivery of verification services by EN 45004 registered contractors, consumer protection is enhanced at the same time as protecting the industry from unnecessary and unsustainable cost – a true public/private partnership providing a proven benefit to the consumer.
